Beauty Tips

We're still here.   It's been a long time for several reasons... we've all gotten very busy with life, and online-ness has dwindled as well as inspiration for blogging.  But something really hit home with me today, and I thought that you girls (and guys... but especially the girls) would really appreciate it.

This site is about fashion - staying in style.  We've discussed makeup, clothes, hair, everything girls associate with the all-coveted "beauty".  Beauty - the evasive thing every girl wants, but doesn't know if she can really have.  Only a few are blessed with it, and the rest of us are just stuck doing the best we can - we get by by making sure we wear the right clothes, use the right makup, cut or color our hair the right way, work out enough - have the right body.  Beauty is something that we all aspire to.

Or is it?  I'm going to get religious for a moment, so if you are offended by that, just close out your browser and forget about this article.  Now then.  We are created by God.  We are made in the likeness of God.  Think about that for a minute.  God gave us, put INSIDE us some of Himself.  His glory, His power, His Beauty.  Did you catch that?  God put His beauty IN each of us. Eve was the last thing that God created - the finishing touch, the crowning jewel and queen of creation. Women are the physical embodiment of His beauty on earth.  Girls, beauty isn't what you wear or how you do your hair, blonde or brunette, what makeup you use, what your complexion is, or how much time you spend at the gym.  Beauty is what's inside of you.  You are beauty.  Remember that.  All the talk about clothes and makeup and hair is simply help bringing out beauty that is already there.  So as much fun as all that stuff is, always remember that you don't actually need any of it to be beautiful.

I find THIS very interesting

What Now? ... A little bit more about hair color

So I'm sure some of you out there are saying something like the following after my last post:

"Oh great, I've already died my hair... and now your telling me its a bad idea"

So now that you've been suffciently warned about hair color... I'm going to teach you how to cheat.  Now please note that when you cheat you are not making it look as good as the real deal.  So this is NOT an incentive to disregard everything I said.   This is an incentive to look better if my last post came too late.

The following tips are to make your overall appearance look better and start to blend together... this does not mean if you have a professional photographer taking headshots of you that you will look your best.  The clashing colors/lack of color will be apparent when all people are seeing is your face.

The Cheat codes:

If you were a redhead/auburn/strawberry blonde:
                      .... and you went blonde

Keep reds, yellows, and oranges in your
wardrobe.  You can keep greens as long as you
haven't been swimming in chlorine water.  Warm
toned tans and champanges will look great.

DO NOT under any circumstances start the
pink/purple/blue trend.

.... and you went brunette or black
Especially focus on the reds.  The contrast will
pop, and it will start to restore color back into
that complexion you just made intensely pale
Orange and teal are also very good colors

You are FORBIDDEN from wearing black(shirts)
Also no pink/purple/blue trend for you.

If you were a blonde:
                    .... and you went red:

Lighter intensity navy's are going to be your
lifesaver.  Off- white is another very good one.
If you keep to light and muted cool greens, that
color can also become part of your staple clothes

DO NOT ever, ever, ever, ever wear pea green
Orange, yellow, and red are also big problems.

.... and you went brunette or black
Pink child! Wear pink!  Pink is your favorite color!
Rose, marroon, wine, burgandy, cameo, candy
ANY shade of pink you can find.  You have just
succesfully turned yourself into a ghost and you
need to bring as much color back into your face
as you possibly can.  Purple is another color that
                                           can possibly aid this.

You are FORBIDDEN from wearing black(shirts)
NO starck white. No warm colors.

If you were a Brunette/Black:
                  .... and you went blonde

Pastels have become your new wardrobe staple.
Light purple, light pink, light blue, light green.
Your problem is that you hair can't take the
                                         intense colors your skin can.  So we comprimise;
Light colors for your hair, but light enough that
they have the intensity needed for your skin.
                                         White is another good color.

NO black.  Stop wearing it.  Now.
DO NOT wear pastel yellow or pastel orange

.... and you went red or auburn
Navy is your new best friend.  You love Navy.
Everything you own is NavyNavy...(you get the point)
Starck white and Cool greens are again a good
                                        choice.

You are FORBIDDEN from wearing black(shirts)
You are also forbidden from pea green.
No orange.  No Red. No Yellow.

Please keep in mind that just because I did not mention a color in the "don't wear this catagory" does not mean that you can wear it.  I only mentioned there the super bad colors that are often worn.   If you have a question about a color let me know what your original base colors were, what they are now, and what color you want to wear.

And there you have it.  Those guidlines still won't bring back your natural beauty... but they will act as a bridge between both worlds.

Once again, if you have any questions let me know!

A little about coloring your hair...

So after talking with Meg I found at that some of y'all have been asking about coloring your hair, and seeing as my main focus in the next little while is going to be color  I thought that would be a good place to start.  The color of your hair is a big determining factor in your color palate.

Changing your base color...

Bluntly?  It's not nessecarily a good idea.  Now here's why:

First,  You were created with the color hair that you have for a reason.  Trust me, It looks stunningly gorgeous on you.  The color hair you have compliments everything about you just the way it is.  You were born with a hair color that perfectly matches your unique skintone, blend of eye color, and general complexion.

Second,  You have a specific skin tone.  Like I said before your hair matches that skintone and when you start changing your base color you throw that balance off and detract from your beauty.

Third,  Your clothing also goes in that group of coordinating color palates.  If you change  your hair color you are likely to start changing your clothing to match your hair... doing this will often make you look pale, yellow, or green.  The flip side being that if you don't match your hair it will look bad.

So the rules go like this:

If you are a redhead... stay a redhead because you have a warm color palate and that is the ONLY color hair that matches those colors

If you are a blonde... stay a blonde because going darker has the potential of turning you intensely pale.

If you have darker hair... Stay dark.  You have an intense color palate... and honey it looks incredible on you.  If you go lighter you loose the ability to use those intense colors because your hair will look washed out.

If you are an inbetweener (like me)... as tempting as it is to go that couple shades in whatever direction you like.   I would advise against it.  Why?  Because you specifically have a very unqiue color palate based on where your mix inbetween dark and light lands.  No one else has that palate.  And no one else looks as good as you when you follow your color line.  Change your hair color and you'll start having problems with certain colors.  Yes it is true that we have the most fudge room... but sometimes fudge room just ends up being extra sugar that you didn't want added to your hips.

One of the thing that bugs me the most about Celeb fashion is the ever changing hair colors.  I just want to go up to them and say "honey, don't you know how beautiful you were before? Why did you have to go change it and ruin your natural stunning beauty?"

Now I understand the need for change.  I understand that sometimes you just feel that your hair looks completely flat (which it doesn't... we're just extra critical of ourselves) and sometimes it just feels good to go to the stylist or get a kit (which can occasionally present you with some pretty awesome color) but if you need change in your hair, I suggest you try some highlights.

Keep this in mind:  I know we don't want to think about getting old  with wrinkles and grey hair... but it is going to happen.  And when you have to start dying grey out of your hair you will never again see your natural color and trust me when I say you'll miss it.

Cherish your color.   Put some highlights in for a temporary change if you're feeling lost in the same old same old.

Highlights:

Contrary to popular belief I have nothing against Highlights...  Providing that you just go a smidgen lighter with the same color tone.  Even with highlights putting a color that doesn't belong in your hair can cause the afore mentioned problems of pale, yellow, and green.   Normally this problem occures when you cross between the cool (blonde, brunette, black, etc.) and warm (redhead, 'orange', strawberry blonde, Auburn, etc.) hair colors.

Highlights are awesome.  They look smashing on alot of people.  They can add dimension and depth to your hair and add a beautiful range of shades.

But before highlighting your hair ask yourself this:

When someone sees me do I want them to think "Wow she has pretty highlights, I wonder where she got them" or "Wow she has pretty hair, I hope mine looks that good"?

Highlights are highlights.  They look like Highlights.  People know when you have highlights.   Fact.   But if you like the highlight look?  Go for it with a gusto sistah!
_____________________________________________________________________________

I'm going to end my speel by saying that you have beautiful hair.  All y'all.  It's stinking gorgeous.  I know y'all are like "yeah but you haven't seen it."  Maybe not...but you know what else I haven't seen?

I have never seen anyone have ugly colored hair that was their natural color.

Be confidant in the fact that you got style... be confident in the fact that the color of your hair is stunning.

And if you've got any questions let me know!
